"Love Nest compositionally places the viewer in the moment-in the bed, petting the dog. The quiet imagery is paired with hard swirling marks, striped pattern, and fur. Made at the beginning of quarantine, this painting seems to say, "be here now" as if the pace of our busy lives would soon return as they were. This painting went through several iterations and now feels like my experience of the lagniappe moments at home, which have strengthened my appreciation of them. This painting is about navigating the disorientation of Covid-19 and facing our fleeting mortality through the lens of gratitude." - Emily LaCour
